Atlantis Space Shuttle Touchdown

Seven astronauts return home safely as the Atlantis space shuttle lands at Kennedy Space Center, Florida after their eleven day mission to the International Space Station.The crew delivered spare parts such as robotic components and gyroscopes weighing in at nearly thirty tons.

1. The Kumquat Festival

Naturally, the event celebrates the magnificent inventor, Thomas Edison. The celebration of light lasts for 3 weeks, from January 30th until February 20th. 3. The Rattlesnake Festival

Ye olde Gainesville is to be invaded by warriors from the Middle Ages on 30th January 2010. The onslaught is expected to be held over two weekends, beginning 30th January and 5th February. Expect many excellent re-enactments and performances, plus the array of excellent costumes and craft work on display will keep your attention for hours. 1. Kennedy Space CenterYou can easily spend a full day touring the exhibits at Kennedy Space Center, which include a wonderful collection of rockets dating back to the start of the space race. You can also view the space shuttle launch pads, carry out astronaut training in various simulators and watch space related films on an Imax screen. A wonderful day out for children and adults as its both enjoyable and educational. If your timing is right you may even be able to watch a launch - check the NASA website for launch information.

2. Cocoa Beach
If you are tight for time this can be combined with a trip to the Kennedy Space Center; Cocoa Beach is within a 1-hour drive of Orlando. Known as the surfing capital of the East Coast, Cocoa Beach is also the hometown of Ron Jon the surfing retail outlet. With some beautiful sandy beaches and a wonderful climate you can lunch or enjoy a drink at the renowned Coconuts on the Beach. Again, if your timing is right you can watch a shuttle launch from the beach.

3. Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park
Within a 2-hour drive of Orlando the park is often home to 'migratory' manatees, as a result of its warm waters. The Wildlife Park also provides information on the environmental damage caused to the surrounding area and the manatees themselves.

4. The Town of Celebration
Within 2 miles of Disney World, this is the town visualised and created by Disney and is well worth a visit. Celebration Town Center has many distinctive homes and gift shops, which are not found elsewhere together with some pleasant restaurants, cafes and bars. There is a beautiful lake at the town center where you can lounge on the deck chairs and watch the world go by while the children play in the water fountains. During the Christmas period, artificial snow is created on Main Street and Christmas music is played while you enjoy the shopping experience.

5. Clearwater Beach
Clearwater is located between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay and is within a 90-minute drive from Orlando. Clearwater has 35 miles of beautiful white-sand beaches, which include Caladesi beach and Fort De Soto Park beach the winners of America's No 1 beach in 2008 and 2005 respectively.
